Sometimes, love is hard.
Sometimes, people are hard to love.
Sometimes, I am hard to love.
Sometimes, God's love for us is hard to understand.
And we wonder, sometimes, if God is even deserving of this love that is so hard to give and so hard to receive.
The art of loving well is not an easy feat to accomplish, and sometimes it seems pretty darn impossible.
Loving is hard, it's true.
But it is also simple.
Sometimes we forget just how simple it is, and we need some help to remember.
I think if we could remember what love is, what it really is and what it really looks like, it might become just a little bit easier to do. Maybe it wouldn't seem so impossible.
And this is why I wanted to share this little book with you that comes out today. Because maybe you are like me, and your soul needs a gentle reminder of what is true about love.
I had the pleasure of reading Dynamite Love by Amber Olafsson a couple of weeks ago, before it was released, and it was so encouraging to me. I'll be honest, I didn't really know what to expect, but I also didn't fully realize how much I needed to read something like this. I had been following Amber on Instagram for a while, and all of her posts were so encouraging, so when she asked me if I would like help her spread the word about her first book, I was excited to help.
I think this is just one way that social media can be such a beautiful thing. It gives us so many opportunities to support each other and celebrate each other's hopes and passions. Really, it gives us such an opportunity to work on loving each other well. Even if we've never met.
How's that for some uplifting of your social media spirits??
Anyway, Dynamite Love is all about our love, God's love, love for our broken world and love for our souls.
One of the main themes of her book is that for us to be able to truly love others well, we need to first realize and accept that we are incredibly and deeply loved by God. Only then can we move on to make a difference and be someone who helps to heal the world around us.
It's not something I haven't heard before, but I was so refreshed by being reminded. As I was reading, I felt like I was just having a coffee and talking with a good friend. Amber's writing style is down-to-earth and relatable. She shares her own struggles and some honest prayers that she has prayed to the Lord. I found these snippets from her own life so helpful because sometimes I feel like I have to have it all figured out when I go to the Lord for help. But her prayers and thoughts are raw, and they approach God right where she is, where all of us are really, broken in the way that we view love but hoping so much to be fixed.
One more thing I loved was how she took truths from the Bible and illustrated them with simple, ordinary imagery from our daily lives. One that stood out to me the most was how she wrote that to remain is God's love feels the same as spending time with one of her sisters, whose company she just wants to soak in for a while. I just love that, and I don't think I ever quite thought about time with God in that way.
If you're looking for something new to read, or you feel like you could use some encouragement, please give this book a try. It's very short, too, which is perfect for some of us mamas who struggle to fit reading into our days. The chapters are also short, so you can feel good even if you only get to read a few pages. And it's only $4.99 on Kindle and $9.99 for a paperback on Amazon. I think this is a small price to pay for the amount of encouragement you'll gain.
The best part is, this book can be for anyone, no matter where you are in your journey with God. She explains God's love for us in such a simple, beautiful way that is uplifting for a person who has been walking with the Lord for many years and also for the person who has never experienced God and doesn't honestly know what to think about him.
This book just does a wonderful job sharing God's heart and amazingly fierce love for human beings.
